Waverley will immediately begin investing to understand your company and putting resources on the project.
Client program managers.
Waverley will assign a local Program Manager to your project. The Program Manager is the primary contact with your team, for both planning and day-to-day project activities. The Program Manager is based in the U.S., close to your time zone and entrenched in U.S. project management and engineering practices.
Joint planning and building rapport.
Waverley will bring key members of the engineering team to your site at the beginning of the project. Including them in the early planning process will pay rich dividends in later stages. Not only will they understand the fundamentals of the project, it’s an opportunity to develop rapport between the development team and your staff.
Seasoned engineering teams.
Your Waverley Engineering Team is based in Europe in a country with a lower cost structure than the U.S. The engineers on the team are all capable and efficient software developers with advanced degrees. Teams are led by experienced senior engineering managers.
Waverley engineers are master craftsmen. They care about what they produce, are passionate about excellence, and Waverley encourages them to continually invest in their learning.
Program Managers and engineering teams are assigned for the entire duration of the project. The people you meet in the planning sessions will be there with you for the life of the project. The senior engineering managers will see the project from beginning to end.
Local managers, remote teams, emphasis on effective communication. You get the productivity benefits of a local team and the cost benefits of offshore development.
Once the project is underway, you’ll have as much visibility into it as you wantyou'll know where the project is, where it is going, and how fast it is traveling.
Waverley has developed a set of tools called Waverley Client Services that enable you to get all this information. This powerful suite of tools covers a number of areas critical to you and your project.
Wiki for collaboration Waverley uses the open-source wiki (the same tool that is used for Wikipedia) for collaboration. Wiki’s are flexible. Project teams can customize them to the team’s specific needs.
The wiki will be your central location for all communication. It is designed to deliver to you the current status of all your projects. You can also use an RSS feed for the latest changes that you can subscribe to with your favorite RSS reader.
Source control – While the wiki is the flexible foundation for communication between all team members, the version control system is the digital vault (or repository) for safekeeping of everything that the team has produced.
Your team will be able to define the structure of your repository as well as the details for accessing it, and these details will be defined within your wiki pages.
Waverley uses the best open source tools available, including: CVS, ViewVC, CVS commit emails, cross-referencing, automatic code documentation, and development metrics.
Bugzilla for bug tracking – Waverley uses Bugzilla for defect management. It’s the best open source solution available. This tool is complemented by another open source tool for managing test plans and test cases, executing test runs, and reporting results.
Bugzilla is also used by the project management team for the assignment and tracking of action items, change requests, and other tasks. Your project manager will assist you with incorporating this powerful tool into your workflow.
Other tools Waverley also incorporates a number of additional open source tools for use with your project. Mailing lists, online code reviews, WebDAV file sharing, and more. All of these tools complement each other to give you unprecedented insight into everything going on with your projects.
Waverley makes your project information available so that all aspects of the project are visible to you. We make it easy for you to communicate with us. Waverley wants you to feel confident that the project is moving forward and will continue to do so. You can feel secure that everything is being built on a solid open source foundation so that your information will be safe for the future.
Tools by themselves don’t create a working relationship for distributed teams. It takes defined communication paths to expand communication so that the central players get involved at the right time and so that they circulate information to the right players.
Waverley has years of experience working with distributed teams. Early in the project we’ll work with you to define the right communication paths for your project. These communication paths will make it easier for you to stay informed and to address issues quickly and efficiently when they arise.
Here’s what usually happens on Waverley projects. As the first project, often a small one, is drawing to a close, the client comes to us and asks to expand the relationship. Now they know how we work and how we invest in understanding their way of doing business. They want to continue to profit from that investment.
